Slow Scanning

Check if your scan timings match with expected scan durations:
- A complete System Scan with CA Anti-Virus takes any where between 15 minutes to 3 hours, this is perfectly normal. However, if you see file count moving very slow on the Scan window, jump to step 1.
- A Quick Scan with CA Anti-Spyware usually takes between 5 to 15 minutes.
- A Custom Scan of the all files and folders in your computer again should range between 15 minutes to 3 hours.

These steps help you fix up slow scan issues:

  1. Update CA. (right click from bottom right and choose Update Product).
  2. Boot in safe mode.
  3. Open CA Anti-Virus and do your scan now.
  4. Also do a complete system scan with CA Anti-Spyware (using Custom Scan).
  5. If the slow scan issue is specific to CA Anti-Spyware and if you have added exclusions in the past, please remove all the exclusions and rethink to quarantine them - this could be real spyware.
  6. Follow other steps to eliminate possible infections slowing down your scans.
  7. Disable non-CA startups.
  8. Restart your computer in normal mode.

This should fix your slow scan issues.
However, if the scan is still slow, please uninstall and reinstall the CA Anti-Virus(or CA Anti-Spyware, the product you have a problem with), since the scan engine files could have gone corrupt. The scan speed would be back to normal now.
